Michael worked for a number of years for Middletons Lawyers in its commercial litigation group before taking a contract role as legal counsel with Diageo Australia Limited in 2006. Michael is a founding partner of Eastern Commercial Lawyers.
Michael practices in commercial litigation and dispute resolution in the Federal Court and various State Supreme Courts.
He has assisted in the resolution of a number of his clients' corporate disputes, bringing to bear his wealth of commercial experience.
Michael's main areas of practice include:
- Strategic handling of disputes and potential disputes
- Enforcing contractual rights and obligations
- Debt recovery, bankruptcy and insolvency
- Litigation to protect or enforce client rights in debt and damages claims
- Intellectual property protection and enforcement including to protect trade marks, copyright, patents and designs and enforcing rights under IP agreements
- Advising on restrictive trade practices including third line forcing, anti competitive contracts, resale price maintenance, price fixing and exclusive dealing and Trade Practices law – consumer protection, competition and remedies
Michael’s clients are in the registered clubs, liquor, fast moving consumer goods, electricity, mining, music publishing, chemical, construction and property industries.

John Murray
John Murray is admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Japanese Language and Japanese Studies from Monash University. John has worked as a partner in Workplace Relations groups in large National firms since 2005. He is a founding partner of Eastern Commercial Lawyers.
An Industrial Relations and Workplace Relations specialist, John works in the areas of employment related litigation, occupational health and safety and workplace relations.
John’s areas of expertise include advice to employers with respect to:
- Compliance with the Workplace Relations Act 1996 (Cth) as amended and other Federal and State based employment related legislation
- Compliance with Federal Awards, Notional Agreements Preserving State Awards and State Awards
- Defending Occupational Health & Safety prosecutions
- Conducting employment related litigation and dispute resolution
- Executive appointment and remuneration, negotiation and restraint of trade provisions
- Preparation, drafting and implementation of workplace agreements including Collective Agreements and other industrial instruments
- Preparation, drafting and implementation of occupational health & safety policies and procedures
- Preparation, drafting and implementation of workplace policies and procedures on anti – discrimination, sexual harassment, and disciplinary procedures
- Reviewing and drafting employment agreements and independent contracts

Tony worked for a number of years in large city law firms Middletons and Thomson Playford before becoming a founding partner of Eastern Commercial Lawyers in early 2007. He has extensive experience in the registered clubs industry, and has managed a range of projects for registered clubs over the past 10 years.
Tony acts for a range of large and small registered clubs, wineries, gaming machine manufacturers, hotels and resorts and liquor manufacturers and retailers throughout Australia.
Tony’s practice is built on a reputation of providing prompt, clear, concise and practical legal solutions to his clients in a broad base of commercial areas including:
- Advice concerning income diversification for registered clubs
